About Sofus Francisco

Sofus Francisco was established in 2008 by Jonas Normann. The company is located in Vejle, Denmark.

We are first and foremost a company that creates strong quality leather straps for track bikes.

Also we want to stick our noses into all kinds of cultural issues. Freedom is our motivation. And the fixed gear scene has got it all and its growing every day. We try to cover the passion of this scene in our site.

After traveling the U.S. several times and having seen and experienced in particular San Francisco’s creative fixed gear culture we were influenced to dig deeper into this lifestyle.

San Francisco is a very different city from any other city I´ve ever traveled to. The city is very open, creative, beautiful and mysterious.

San Francisco has perfect steep hills for riding fixed gear the hardcore way.

Just like Vejle where we have the steepest hills and streets in Denmark. Vejle is is a city in a valley surrounded by great hills. Many people ask why you wanna ride with only one gear in this city.  And with no brakes. Well it´s only more fun this way. Just get a pair of straps and these hills will be no problem anymore.

My grandmother has as long as I can remember made leather shoes for a living in her own little independent company.  From her I got the idea and knowledge how to make my own leather straps for track bikes. I thought that the straps on the market at that time was nice, but not nicer than I could even make them equally or more attractive.
In the start I cut everything by hand and it could take up to five hours, creating a single set of straps. My friends asked if I could make a pair of straps for them and eventually I had cut a lot of straps and spent many hours on making them.

Today I work with a professional and local saddlemaker, where I now produce the straps on his machines.

All leather and materials for the straps are chosen with great care and we only use the strongest and best leather and materials.  The same leather we use is being used for horse harness which is a type of horse tack that allows a horse to pull various horse drawn vehicles and wagons.

We are now three people in the company. My two cousins, Thomas and Jacob Kristensen are now in on it as well. They help out with graphics, design and other great ideas.

It´s very important to us that our costumers and readers have a good experience when visiting our site. Feel free to ask any question. We have a blog that everybody can use, but you can also mail your questions in the contact form in the main menu. We will answer the same or next day.

Ride on..
